Space Alien
Halloween isn't just for monsters and witches! These space alien snacks, made with pretzels and other sweets, are so out of this world, they'll disappear as soon as you set them on the table!

Ingredients
Vanilla almond bark candy
Thin salted pretzel twists
Green liquid food coloring
Green leaf-shape jelly candy
Candy-coated chocolate candies
Sathers Cherry Sour candies
Directions
1. Melt the almond bark candy according to package directions. Use tongs or a fork to dip pretzels into melted candy. Place the dipped pretzels on waxed paper to dry. For white aliens, dip the pretzels a second time. For green aliens, tint the melted candy green and dip them once. (Tinted candy has a thicker consistency than untinted candy.)

2. To make eyes for an alien, cut a jelly candy in half, creating two half-leaf shapes; trim off the top curved edges to slim the shapes. Cut a candy-coated chocolate candy in half for irises. Cut a Cherry Sour candy in half to make a mouth.

3. Use melted almond bark candy and a toothpick to attach the eyes and mouth to the pretzel. Press the cut edges of the irises to the jelly-candy eyes referring to the photo for placement.

Pulled Pork with Root Beer Sauce
Root beer gives these pork sandwiches a rich color and pleasant sweetness. Root beer concentrate intensifies the flavor.

Ingredients
1 2-1/2- to 3-pound pork sirloin roast
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon cooking oil
2 medium onions, cut into thin wedges
1 cup root beer*
6 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups root beer (two 12-ounce cans or bottles)*
1 cup bottled chili sauce
1/4 teaspoon root beer concentrate (optional)
Several dashes bottled hot pepper sauce (optional)
8 to 10 hamburger buns, split (and toasted, if desired)
Lettuce leaves (optional)
Tomato slices (optional)
Directions
1. Trim fat from meat. If necessary, cut roast to fit into a 3-1/2- to 5-quart crockery cooker. Sprinkle meat with the salt and pepper. In a large skillet brown meat on all sides in hot oil. Drain off fat. Transfer meat to cooker. Add onions, the 1 cup root beer, and garlic.

2. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 8 to 10 hours or on high-heat setting for 4 to 5 hours.

3. Meanwhile, for sauce, in a medium saucepan combine the 3 cups of root beer and the chili sauce. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Boil gently, uncovered, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes or until mixture is reduced to 2 cups. Add root beer concentrate and bottled hot pepper sauce, if desired.

4. Transfer roast to a cutting board or serving platter. Using a slotted spoon, remove onions from cooking juices and place on serving platter. Discard juices. Using 2 forks, pull meat apart into shreds. To serve, line buns with lettuce leaves and tomato slices, if desired. Add meat and onions; spoon on sauce. Makes 8 to 10 servings.

*Note: Do not substitute with diet root beer.

Awesome Popcorn Balls
No special tricks are needed to make a chewy, gooey caramel-coated snack that grown-ups will like as much as kids do.

Ingredients
8 cups popped popcorn
1 12.5-ounce bottle caramel ice cream topping
1 6-ounce package dried apricots, snipped
1 cup peanuts
Nonstick aluminum foil
Butter
Cellophane or plastic wrap
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 300F. Remove all unpopped kernels from popped popcorn. Put popcorn into a greased 17x12x2-inch baking or roasting pan. Pour ice cream topping over popcorn. Add apricots and peanuts. Stir gently to coat. Bake for 20 minutes. Stir mixture; bake 5 minutes more. Spread caramel corn on a large piece of nonstick foil to cool. Let stand for 5 minutes. While caramel corn mixture is still warm, form it into small balls with buttered hands, using about 1/4 cup of mixture for each ball. Wrap each ball in cellophane or plastic wrap.

2. To decorate the cellophane-covered popcorn balls, twist chenille stems to resemble bugs or other scary creatures. Affix plastic eyes to the chenille stems using crafts glue. Makes 16 popcorn balls.
