Shopping Smart 101: How to combine sale prices and coupons to shop like a rock star & brag about how to StretchThatDollar!!

Here's a very simple, but powerful demonstration of how you can REALLY save BIG on anything that is "couponable".

Yes, I realize that not all items are "couponable"-- in fact, I rarely buy foods that are-- but this is what I do for all of my toiletries and household goods which allows me to devote a higher portion of my budget to buying healthy and "real" food for my family.

Okay, let's begin:

Let's use some real numbers here, let's say that you want to buy an item that retails for $10 and there's a manufacturer's coupon available for $2-- let's look at the following scenarios:

Using a coupon only:

Price: $10
Coupon: $2
Spend: $8

Savings: 20%.
That's okay-- not stellar, but decent.

Shopping the sales only:

Price: $8 (regularly $10)

Savings: 20%
Again, okay, but nothing to write home about.

Combining a sale with a coupon:

Price: $8 (regularly $10)
Coupon: $2
Spend: $6

Savings: 40%
Now we're starting to get somewhere.

Combining a sale with store AND manufacturers coupons:

Price: $8
Manufacturers Coupon: $2
Store Coupon: $1
Spend: $5

Savings: 50%
Getting better...

Combining a BETTER (BOGO) sale with coupon(s):

Price: $10 ($5/each)-- on sale: buy one, get one free
Coupon: $2 (x2)
Spend: $6 ($3 each)

Savings: 70%
WAY better!

Combining a BETTER (BOGO) sale with coupon(s) and a store $ off coupon:

Price: $10 ($5/each)-- buy one get one free
Coupon: $2 (x2)
Spend: $6 ($3 each)

If you have a $10 off $50 coupon-- that gives you the equivalent of an additional 20% off your total, bringing your total down to $2.40/each

Savings: 76%
And, that's how you brag about how to StretchThatDollar!
