Day 16: Going for the Great Greens
All salads aren't created equal. When you decide to toss yourself a bowl of greens, go for darker varieties for higher nutrient content. Pale iceberg lettuce is mostly just water, but romaine lettuce, watercress, and arugula provide better sources of fiber, potassium, and beta-carotene for about the same calories. Raw baby spinach, with 20 calories and 5 grams of fiber in 1 1/2 cups, is a smart choice, too!

Day 17: Crunchy Snacks
Ever get the urge to snack on something crunchy while watching a movie or working at your desk? It might be part reflex and part hunger, but there's also something really satisfying about the act of chewing. Instead of reaching for chips or other high-calorie, high-fat snacks, try 2 cups of air-popped popcorn, 3 rice cakes, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cereal, or raw vegetables. You'll get the crunch you need without the calories!

Day 18 Using the Buddy System
We know it's difficult to stay motivated to exercise regularly. One great way to keep up a workout routine is to pair up with another dedicated person, or with a small group of friends. You'll be surprised how much fun it can be to have a special group for walking, running, or working out at the gym. The camaraderie and support (not to mention the healthy peer pressure) can keep you motivated and feeling positive. Plus, you'll get some necessary together time, too.

Day 19: Focus on Your Food
Taking time to enjoy a meal can often seem like a major inconvenience. An excellent way to moderate how much you eat is to slow down, relax, and focus on your food. If you're eating while you're driving in your car or while you're working on your computer, you're rushing through the process and potentially overeating. It takes 20 minutes for the body to start really digesting food, so take your time and enjoy your meal!

Day 20: Healthy Vegetarian
Cutting out the meat doesn't always cut out calories, especially when it's replaced with high-calorie, high-fat vegetarian foods like cheese and nuts. Plus, many prepackaged garden burgers and fried veggie patties have just as much fat as meat products. The trick is to balance your diet and try not to replace meat sources with other fatty foods.

Day 21: Find the Right Exercise for You
If you absolutely hate jogging, you probably won't look forward to a mile around the track. You can get the same benefit from rollerblading, dancing, or practicing karate -- depending on the amount of time and the level of exertion. A fun, 20-minute game of basketball can burn up around 175 calories. So find the exercise that's right for you, and then you'll want to stick to it.

Day 22: Foods That Boost Your Mood
Many of us crave carbohydrate-rich food like pastas, pastry, potatoes, or candy when we're feeling blue. The good news is that doctors believe carbohydrates elevate brain levels of tryptophan and serotonin, which can improve your mood and relieve irritability. The bad news is these same foods can make us feel drowsy and sluggish! So if you're looking for some mood-boosting foods, look for ingredients rich in omega-3 oils and protein.

Day 23: Smart Starters
Starting your meal with a small, healthy salad of dark greens, colorful veggies, and low-calorie dressing is a quick way to get some added vitamins while also taking the edge off your hunger. Restaurant appetizers can often be deep fried or high in calories, carbs, and fat. Start with a crisp salad and you'll eat less of your entree while still getting all the vitamins you need!

Day 24: It's All in the Abs
If you're feeling shy about wearing your low-rise jeans because your tummy could use some toning, it's time to target your lower abdominals with oblique crunches. It may sound like a type of breakfast cereal, but this exercise will help flatten your stomach and tighten that little bump that's hanging over your jeans. Give it a try!

Day 25: That's One Sweet Potato!
Before you whip up regular potatoes with dinner tonight, why not make sweet potatoes instead? At around 90 calories per half cup, sweet potatoes are an excellent source of beta-carotene, antioxidants, and fiber; regular potatoes baked in their skins have almost double the calories and very little beta-carotene. No need to add sugar or a lot of butter to the tasty orange tubers either, because these potatoes are sweet enough!

Day 26: Counting Coffee
Sipping a nice hot cup of coffee is the way most of us like to start our mornings, but it may not be the healthiest way. Sure, java tastes great and provides a shot of quick energy. But when you add cream and sugar, one cup of coffee can have as much as 74 calories! Caffeine also has a dehydrating effect and can rob your body of much-needed calcium. Flavored herbal tea, on the other hand, doesn't have caffeine, doesn't need milk or sugar, and only has 1 calorie. Now that's a healthier choice, especially if you're hooked on more than one cup of coffee a day!

Day 27: Set Small Goals
Getting discouraged by your exercise routine? Your best bet is to launch your exercise regimen with small goals in mind. If your target is to run at a brisk pace for 30 minutes, start by walking fast for 30 minutes. After a few days, move up to light jogging. Keep stepping up the pace, and eventually you'll reach your goal. Plus, building on smaller goals is good for your body -- and your confidence, too.

Day 28 Calcium Solutions
Did you know we're supposed to eat or drink 1,000 mg of calcium each day? Tough when you're cutting out fatty foods like cream in your coffee and ice cream for dessert. But reduced-fat milks, yogurts, and cheeses can help you reach this goal without the usual fat and calories. In fact, many of these products actually have more calcium than their whole-milk counterparts! Plus, some dietitians and doctors say that eating dairy products like yogurt will help you lose weight because they're filling without being high in calories.

Day 29: Touch Your Toes
When was the last time you tried to touch your toes? It may seem like a bit of a stretch, but doing the toe-touch crunch is a great way to work your abdominal muscles and strengthen your thighs -- and who couldn't use some boosting there? This is an exercise you can do at home for a morning stretch, or try it just before you go to bed at night to loosen up those muscles.

Day 30: Breakfast: The Secret to Diet Success
If you think you'll lose weight by skipping breakfast, think again! When you eat a healthy breakfast, you're starting the foundation in your stomach for your entire day. You won't be as likely to binge at lunchtime because you're famished! Breakfast also jump-starts your metabolism. Studies show that 80 percent of the most successful dieters (people who shed 30 pounds and keep off the weight for over a year) are regular breakfast eaters. So make sure you make time for most important meal of the day!
